Snowshoe Hiking near Hakkei

Snowshoe hiking is a snowshoe play that is recommended for beginners who are new to mountaineering in the winter season. It is popular activity that even people who are not good at skiing and snowboarding can enjoy the wilderness of winter. The season is from mid December to mid March.

My 1st Snowshoe hiking at Karasugasen, the place is nearly 1 hour drive from Hakkei ryokan. At first we have to learn how to wear snowshoe and prepare ourselves for the course. Today we wear Tsl snowshoe which are imported from France. Course was nearly 3 hours in which we also study how trees change in winter. Interesting study we find that 1 tree was cold and next one was warm when we explore. Also you may find animals footprints in snow as we saw some footsteps on our way, guide told us and teaches that these foot prints related to fox. We learn how to walk, climb and slide. After 2 hours we take a break and experience 1st time making coffee center of the snow. For safety and fun I prefer you have to experience with 3 to 4 person group snowshoe hiking.
